Yes, forever! I'm committed to keeping Charged Weekly going forever, and keeping it free. Part of that effort is re:Charged, which will help fund the rest of the weekly content so you can enjoy it without ads! :)
Good question! I could spend an hour recounting reasons to do re:Charged, but it boils down to trying to tune in the signal.
I read technology news constantly and I'm overwhelmed — and I know nobody else can keep up. I wanted to create something that's sustainable, doesn't bow to advertising and is useful to you every single day.
If you're interested in the thinking behind re:Charged and the journey to here you can read more in this document.
I don't think it costs as much as you might think! When I looked at how to price re:Charged I had a bunch of options. $2 a month would let me go to the masses, but meant that the community side would suffer and churn would be higher.
I wanted to build something people read every day and cherished — $7 a month means that we can do exactly that and keep active development going.
Sort of. On the surface it seems like just another newsletter™ but it's much more, and our roadmap has some interesting features to break email out of your inbox.
Each newsletter has a corresponding rich web version, and sections inside the newsletter have their own permalinks so you can share a chunk of information with someone outside of re:Charged, no obligation.
The technology for that is tricky and custom built — but lets us do all sorts of interesting things in the future. We're only at square one.
Absolutely. I'd love to have you onboard — just email firstname.lastname@example.org with your student email address and I'll make sure you're taken care of.
I'll refund you, no questions asked. Just say the word and I'll fire your cash back, even if it's been more than just your first month. I want to make sure you love this, so if you have any feedback I'd love to hear why.
Coming! This is a beta, and I just wanted to get it out of the door. But, I do solemnly swear to never share or sell your email address, sell your image or start sending you spam.
I want to! But again, it didn't make the cut for launch. I'm working on a way to handle this but it's not as easy as it seems on the surface. I'm hoping to have it, and a way for existing subscribers to switch plans, by the time re:Charged launches.
